Slotting machines(4)

The slotting machine is very similar to the filing machine and the broaching machine. The machine works by removing chips in order to plane the internal surfaces of a hole or of profiled surfaces. The slotting machine works with vertical and/or inclined rectilinear motion, increasing the cutting depth with each passage of the tool. Cutting consists in obtaining vertical, shaped or straight grooves by means of the intermittent passage of the cutting tool to gradually obtain the desired shape and size. The positioning motion of the workpiece is dictated by the workpiece holder plane, which can move longitudinally, transversely or circularly. Modern slotting machines are equipped with numerical control and can have one or more controlled axes. An important feature to take into account when choosing a slotting machine is the stroke of the tool.
