Charmilles was founded in 1861 in Switzerland, the Ateliers des Charmilles produced cars for almost a century, until 1952, when it began to devote itself to EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) for industrial applications.
In the mid-1950s, Charmilles introduced the first die sinking EDM machines and immediately became a market leader.
In 1983, Ateliers des Charmilles became part of the Swiss industrial group Georg Fischer, which acquired 51% of the company's shares. The company is renamed Charmilles Technologies SA. In 1988, Georg Fischer took over all the shares in Charmilles.
