DECKEL MAHO(121)

Friedrich Deckel was already active at the end of the 19th century in the field of shutters for the photographic industry. In the early 1900s, Deckel began to specialise in the design and manufacture of high-precision machine tools for precision mechanics and mould making. In 1912, Deckel was the first company in Germany to introduce the 8-hour working day and at that time already had 500 employees. In addition to the production of machine tools, the company also produces injection pumps for diesel and petrol engines and during the Second World War builds aircraft engines for BMW. In 1953, the company reached 3,000 employees and increasingly focuses exclusively on the manufacture of high-precision machine tools, in particular on the design of milling machines. In 1993, Deckel merged with Maho, but the merger only led to bankruptcy a year later. In 1994, Deckel Maho was entirely taken over by the turning machine manufacturer Gildemeister, and finally formed the Deckel Maho GIldemeister group, more commonly known as DMG. Today, the DMG brands have passed under the control of the Japanese company DMG-MORI.
