Capping machines can be automatic, semi-automatic or manual and are used in different sectors of industrial activity: food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and cosmetic sectors. The main function of the capping machines is obviously capping and closing a container, which can be a bottle, a vial, a jar, made of glass or plastic immediately after the filling phase. The caps can be screw caps, pressure caps, alu-caps, cork, dosing caps, twist-off, pilfer proof, dispenser, etc.. Capping is a very important process, as the preservation of the product depends on it. Rotary capping machines are generally composed of: a bottle infeed belt, a bottle infeed starwheel, a cap infeed station, a screwing station (in the pharmaceutical sector, we often also find a pre-screwing station), a bottle outfeed starwheel, a capped bottle outfeed belt. Sometimes there are two capping stations because one station is dedicated to the insertion of the first undercap or stopper and the second one inserts a second stopper, such as, for example, the dispensing glass present in the syrups. Linear capping machines are less common and, unlike rotary capping machines, do not have starwheels that facilitate the entry of the bottles but are equipped with a transport belt that delivers the containers under the capping station. Some capping machines have a cap presence control, which allows the container to be rejected if it does not have a cap. A further possible check is to verify that the cap has been inserted correctly and, if necessary, to reject it. The speed of the rotary capping machine depends on the number of starwheels and the number of capping heads.
