Injection moulding machines - Injection presses(243)

Injection moulding machines are machines used for a particular industrial process, injection moulding. In this process, the plastic is first melted and then injected at high pressure into a mould. Finally, the mould is opened once the plastic has cooled down and solidified. This technique is widely used in the production of plastic parts and spare parts. The injection moulding machine enables the production of very large volumes of mass-produced parts in a particularly short time. This latter advantage makes the injection moulding machine the most common machine in the plastics industry, and injection moulding is largely the most common technique in plastics processing. The injection moulding process takes place in the following stages: a previously designed and manufactured steel or aluminium mould is inserted into the machine. The mould is blocked in such a way that it remains closed during the plastic injection process. At this point, the plastic, in the form of pellets or granules, is introduced into the press and heated until it reaches a liquid state. Once liquefied, the plastic is pressed into the mould. At this point the plastic will cool down and take the shape of the mould. Once cooled and solidified, the finished piece is ejected by means of extractors from the mould, which in the meantime have been opened.
