The traditional technique of sheet metal cutting is called shearing. This processing is carried out by machines called shears. The guillotine shear essentially consists of two blades, a fixed blade placed in the lower part of the machine and on which the sheet of sheet metal is placed in order to be cut, and a mobile blade placed on the upper part which is operated by hydraulic pistons also operated by a hydraulic unit. The shears, moreover, are also composed of a device called sheet support, which allows the material to be held still during processing. A last device always present in this type of machinery is represented by the adjustable guides that allow the sliding of the sheet metal. The guillotine shears vary according to the size of the blades that can reach up to 6 meters in length and according to the thickness that can cut with cutting capacity up to 30 mm. In large shears, the upper blade is not always straight but has a slight curvature, this curvature is intended to reduce the effort of the machine during cutting using the so-called "scissor effect".
